  • Probably comes from ‘movie stars’ which would be from the early days of hollywood, because the actors ‘shone’ in the their movies or some such rubbish.

  • I don’t know. Interesting question! I named my science blog “Beautiful Stars” after a quote by the physicist Richard Feynman which starts:

“Poets say science takes away from the beauty of the stars – mere globs of gas atoms. I too can see the stars on a desert night, and feel them. But do I see less or more?”

But I didn’t realise until after I did it that this makes it basically impossible to find on Google as it’s hidden in all sorts of stuff about how pretty celebrities are. Oh well! ;)

    It’s http://thebeautifulstars.blogspot.co.uk/ by the way.

  • Because they are pointless balls of hot gas?

  • Probably because they glitter when the photographers flashes reflect off their shiny white teeth.

They are far more boring than real stars!
