We are made out of star dust: before a star explodes, the heaviest element you can get is iron but we have heavier elements inside of us.
So to get the really heavy elements, you need a star to go supernova and that leaves lots of bits that eventually make a planet (the Earth) around another, new star (the Sun). If you are lucky, you get life, human beings, and finally school children. So it goes from exploding stars to you!
