I’m very fond of the 200 inch telescope on Mount Palomar (which is in California in the US). That was the first big optical telescope I ever used. 🙂
I’ve done science in a few countries, but I’d love to go and try out all the countries before I decided.
So far, my favourite country has definitely been Madagascar – I slept in a hammock in a tree that i shared with some lemurs, and the weather was always lovely!
Well, England is quite good (when I go abroad I have to take Marmite, tea, and sometimes even chocolate).
But I do enjoy working in Spain because the mountain where the observatory is can be very peaceful and quiet so it is a good place to do thinking (when I have time!) plus the weather is often nice without being too hot. The altitude is also low, about the same air pressure as in an airplane, so unlike the observatory on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, I don’t find it difficult to think because of low oxygen levels.
