My work doesn’t exactly give satisfaction in people’s lives – it’s a bit abstract compared to that, so it’s hard to make out if it’s making a difference.

However, it definitely gives me satisfaction, and I also enjoy it when I can get other people excited about it as well!

I think the most important thing about doing science, is the chance to tell other people about it, or change their lives in some way. It makes me really angry when old dusty scientists take public money and don’t care whether anyone knows about their work.

I like doing science, but for me, the whole point of the work I do, is telling other people about it, and hearing people go ‘Wow!’. It’s not worth doing otherwise!

I enjoy my work and I also really enjoy talking to other people about my work, including non-scientists. It’s great to see people getting excited about science

Only very few people directly see what I do, and even less benefit directly. But we do buy a lot of special equipment that supports manufacturing and hi-tech industries in the UK. So we do help the economy, and help keep Britain making high technology things. (We also buy a lot from Europe and America too 🙂 )
