• Question: do you like the thought of being proposed with a difficult challenge?

      I will answer with a quote –

      “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…” – Which was how JFK got the USA to the Moon before 1970.

      I think human beings have an inbuilt desire to be challenged. We need ambitious targets to really fulfil our potential, so yes, I love having a difficult challenge!

      I love it – thats why we do science. Adam already stole my favourite quote.

      It can be really exciting being posed a question that nobody has tried to answer before, and coming up with a way of answering it, and testing your ideas, and getting an answer. The feeling that you have done that all yourself is something to be really proud of!

      It’s good to be challenged, but sometimes things can seem so difficult that you don’t know where to start. i find the best thing is to break a problem down into small pieces and deal with them one at a time.

      Being a scientist means you regularly get difficult challenges, so if you don’t like that then it is the wrong job. I think I would get bored if I didn’t get tough problems to solve, so yes, I do like the thought.
