I think maybe I do. Because I’m not a space scientist and all my research is done on rocks here on earth, I look for the same sorts of patterns we see on earth, out in space – in particular, the biggers pattern of all. Life!

When I think about space, I think about where we might be likely to find life if we went out looking, or where it would come from if it arrived here! I imagine all the different environments out in space, and how life might evolve to cope with it.

There’s a lot of different people with different perspectives on space.

A lot of people see it as a frontier that we have to cross to get to other places, which might seem sensible.

Some people are interested in the space itself, so they don’t see it as a frontier, but rather the thing that needs exploring.

Myself, I guess I just see space as inevitable. No matter what problems with money and politics we face, sooner or later, we’re going to go out into space.

Hmm interesting question. I certainly think a lot more about space than most people – and I think about it in a way to try to figure out what’s going on, so I suppose that’s different too.

For example – when I look up at stars/planets at night I often think about how far away they are and other information about them- not just looking at how pretty they are (which I see too). I actually think looking at the point of light which is Jupiter gets much more amazing when you remember things like that its the largest planet in the solar system, and 100 times bigger than Earth, yet when you see it from here it’s so far away it’s just a dot of light.

So I suppose I do have a different perspective to most people – and I try to share that with others when I can.

I’ve been trained to understand a lot about space so when I look at a lot of it, in a way I know what I’m looking at. So sometimes I notice the little details, because I’m used to the big things, and they can become really interesting.

(Which is why, although the Brian Cox programme on the solar system was good, I didn’t watch much of it.)
