I studied hard. I did a Physics degree at Oxford, then a PhD in astronomy at Cornell University which is in the US.

      • I never really thought about whether I wanted to be a scientist until I was choosing my A-levels and thinking about what to do at university. I really liked art as well as science at school and it was a tough decision to have to choose between the two. I chose science because I thought I was better at it than art, and then changed my mind a million times about what type of scientist I wanted to be. I’m still not sure I’ve decided! And I still get to do art in my spare time now!

After choosing science for A-levels at school (we had to do it for GCSE), I did a science subject at university, specialising in physics, then I got a chance to study for a PhD in astronomy (which is training to become a scientist) and I finally got a job as a postdoc and now I have a research fellowship which is my own money to study what I like.
