      Very very very!

Apart from the fact science is amazing (obv), it teaches you really important skills that you can use for other things.

The main thing science does (or should do) is teach you to think for yourself rather than just believing what other people say.

Maybe the experiments you do and the things you learn about in school are sometimes a bit boring, but if you started to think independently they might magically get better 😉

I think it’s really important because it helps you to understand the world around you. I think it’s just as important for people who don’t want to be scientists too because you need to know a bit about science to help you make decisions about your life.

I think very important. It’s part of being a well rounded human being – like reading books and knowing about culture/history. And you might find you like it enough to keep studying it further, so you don’t want to not be able to do that because you haven’t got the background.

Super important! Even if you don’t enjoy it, you NEED it!

How do you know not to jump off a big cliff without a parachute? Because you know that gravity will squish you into the ground. That’s science!

How do you know not to drink bleach out of the kitchen cupboard? Because you know it contains nasty chemicals that kill bacteria, so it won’t do you any good either. That’s science!

How do you know that you shouldn’t take your pet goldfish for a walk? Because you know that it doesn’t have lungs that can breathe on land and it’ll die. That’s science!

Science teaches us basic things, but it can also make you curious about stuff you had never heard of before, and that can help you decide to become a scientist and do a job you really really enjoy!

Very important, and not just so you can understand science.

A big part of the scientific method is to learn how to look at the facts, and other evidence, come up with an idea, and then try to test it to make sure you have understood what is going on.

You can do this in lots of areas of your life: dealing with money, you want to understand what the banks, for example, are doing with your savings and you can make models (like experiments) using spreadsheets in your computer to maximise how much money you can save. Or when you are cooking, you can use the lessons from science to understand how a pressure cooker works, and that means less time spent in the kitchen.

Plus, a lot of our modern life involves a lot of science so it is important to know what is going on around you so you can control it, and not be controlled by it instead.
