Question: how many years would it take to get to the next galaxy???

It takes light 2.6 million years to get there – so a lot longer than that!

Longer than humans have been around on the planet, so we’ve got a long way to go!

If you were made of light, you could get to the closest one – a dwarf galaxy near ours, in 25,000 years 😀
But if you had to stick to normal rocket speeds, that’d take you about 450 million years, almost as long as animals have been around on earth!

if light travels at 299,792,458 meters per second. Per minute it would travel 17,987,547 km. Per hour it would travel 1,079,252,849 km. Per day light will travel 25,902,068,371,200 km.
Per normal year it will travel 9,354,354,955,488,000 km or in AU’s 62,530,001 or in milliparsecs 277,911.11.
One AU is 149,597,871 km.
One milliparsec is 225 AU’s.

Very nice marcusw, but you might be surprised to know that most scientists round their numbers up, so they don’t get mixed up so easily. When you’re talking about the distance from one galaxy to the next, 1, or 10, or even 100 km isn’t going to make a massive difference!
