Question: What do you feel is the most imporrtant aspect of space science to be researched? Why? Has it already been researched, is it in the process of being researched, or is it yet to be researched?

I’m a big fan of human space exploration, so I think we should be doing more on that! Obviously the main set of research is from the Apollo programme, Mir space station and the ISS, but there’s lots more work to do.
Because it’s hard to simulate outer space on earth we’ve very limited in the research we can do. You have to do things like go on parabolic flights, where you get less than 30 seconds of weightlessness at a time, making experiments very difficult.
All this means it’s very expensive to research, but I think it’s cool so everyone should give us money š
For me it’s the search for extraterrestrial life. It would be so exciting to discover that Earth is not the only planet in the universe where there is life.
Selfishly for humans it might be most important to track and understand all asteroids/comets which have any chance of hitting Earth. Personally I’d like to make sure we find them in time to do something about them. There are people doing this – and a lot of amateur astronomers help too, but I bet they could use more help.
I think Iām a bit biased on this one, but I think that astrobiology is a really important area to research, because finding out if things living on earth are the only ones in the whole universe, or whether life is common, will really change how we think about ourselves.
It is being researched for the first time properly only in the last 50 years, but more and more people are working on astrobiology problems that we are getting more and more information every day.
