The tardigrade! It is incredibly cute, and is sometimes called a water bear or a moss piglet! But they only grow to about a couple of millimetres long.

They’re also the toughest little animal, and can survive really hot and cold conditions, drying out, and huge doses of radiation! Scientists have even sent them into space.

Watch this video, it’s awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6H0E77TdYnY&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL08A3696E555549C2

      Octopuses!

They are awesome. I like to play with them when I go diving.

This article tells you about how AWESOME octopuses are http://www.orionmagazine.org/index.php/articles/article/6474/

It’s a bit long so I will summarise it for you.

      Why octopuses are awesome:
      – just look at them
      – they have suckers (which can taste things), 8 arms, a beak, venom and can squirt ink. Who wouldn’t love that?
      – they are masters of disguise, can change shape, texture and colour ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8UMBoyMScA )
      – they’re really intelligent, recognise & remember people, can solve & remember puzzles
      – they have personalities, sulk if they get annoyed, and have a sense of humour (they squirt water at people they don’t like)
      – they are escape artists and contortionists in one
      – they can easily take on fish (& sharks) bigger than them
      – they build houses

People – because we wonder about where we came from and do science.

There are so many amazing creatures on the planet that do things I never would have dreamt of: from Cecillians, whose mothers feed their babies their own skin to help them grow; to Emperor Penguins that live in the middle of the absolutely freezing Antarctic winter with their one egg kept warm on their feet; and the sperm whales that dive down thousands of metres into the dark ocean depths to hunt huge squid that are as big as a boat and live in pitch darkness.

So I don’t think I’d like to choose. But I will mention the Swift. It is a bird that you see in England in summer, but flies thousands of miles to Africa every year to live there during our winter. But amazingly, they spend most of their life in the air, even sleeping whilst flying at the same time! I think after they are born, they don’t land for 2 years.
