In a way it was an accident: I was looking for PhD placements and there was one that seemed unique in where you could do it, to combine adaptive optics (which combats twinkling) with interferometry (which connects small telescopes together to make one big one) that seemed really interesting. After that, once you start studying one problem in detail, it just seemed like a good problem to solve. So I didn’t go looking for the problem, in a way, the problem found me. 🙂
