I got really interested in space travel and astronauts just before a family holiday to Florida when I was about 15. I was ready to commit mutiny if we didn’t go to Cape Canaveral – but lucky my parents were OK with that idea. So that was really great. I must have been interested before that, but I don’t remember exactly the first thing I got interested in. Perhaps I should ask my Mum and see if she remembers. 🙂

I remember star gazing on holiday in the country in Portugal. The sky was so clear and dark that you could make out so many little stars and it was so warm at night that we used to spend all night stargazing. That was when I was about 6 or 7.

My interest grew a lot from reading science fiction books as well.

      Very recently.

I’ve been researching fossil bacteria, and there is always a lot of interest in alien life, so I started thinking about how I could use my research to help the search. Then there was a big paper published that claimed to have found life in a meteorite, and for the first time my work was useful. I got a taste for success, and now I’m doing lots of astrobiology research!
