I believe the big bang is how the universe started and the the Earth formed via the collapse of a dust cloud into a solar nebula that then formed planets and eventually the solar system as we know it.

We have lots of evidence for this and our understanding is expanding all the time.

Some people try and reconcile these facts with religion, which can sometimes work but generally means you have to pick and choose certain bits. So I have to believe that religious teachings are either a) made up or b) were never meant to be taken as absolutely true.

I am convinced by the Big Bang. I reconcile that with religion by believing (in my case) the Bible is a metaphor for how things work and how to be nice to each other. Not absolute truth.

I have never really had a religion, and since I have been studying science, I have realised more and more how the rules of nature and physics can pretty much explain everything we see, so you could say that science is my religion! Normal people would say I’m an atheist though…

I don’t really understand a lot of the science behind the big bang theory, like how it happened or why, but I do see that it is the best way to explain the things we can see in the universe, so I’m happy to believe that. It seems easier than having to invent a whole other scheme that doesn’t fit with a lot of the measurements we can take.

But religion is just somebody’s opinion, and one that I think everyone is entitled to. So even though I believe in science, I don’t have a problem with someone else believing something else, as long as they don’t mind me believing in science!

Well my religion doesn’t say how the universe began, only on how you should behave when you are already in it. So I go with the big bang.
