Hard to pinpoint really. I just think it’s a really cool thing. I don’t think I would really care if we proved there wasn’t life on Mars (even though that would be impossible).

It’s one of those things I can’t really explain rationally, I just have some kind of connection with the red planet!

I am really interested in finding life anywhere, not just on Mars. Mars is a good place to start because it’s relatively close to the Earth (we can send a spaceship there and it takes about 9 months) and we know a lot about it from all the data collected by previous missions. If we found life on Mars it would mean it’s more likely that there is life on other planets too.

I’m intersted in lofe all through space, But I think the idea of life on Mars is most attractive, because it is our nearest planet and the one we have the best chances of getting to, investigating, and maybe even one day colonising!

Popular culture, like books and films like War of the Worlds, help to inspire people’s imagination and curiosity about life on Mars, but it reality it’s not likely to be more than just bacteria. Still, it would be great to be able to get there, find them, and study them!
